September 25th Newsletter

Dear Family,

Hello everyone. I hope that this letter finds you all well.

Can you believe that September is almost over? We have had such a busy month of getting to know each other, playing and learning.

Literacy time is such a fun time in Pre k. I have begun to introduce a few book concepts with the children this week. We have talked about books having front and back covers and spines as well as a title. I will continue to reinforce those concepts next week while adding in illustrator (they seem to connect with the pictures sooner than they do with the text of a story).

We have been listening to many stories about apples. Most have been fictional but a few have been nonfiction. It was interesting when we learned about Johnny Appleseed being a real man a long time ago. Of course their favorite part was learning that he wore his cooking pot on his head!

Our math lessons this week have really been focused on the number 10. We have been counting to 10 and back from 10. We have been one to one matching 10 items as we count and looking at number cards from 1-10.

For writing this week, not only have we been working on writing our name with a capital at the beginning and lower case letters after but we have practiced our proper pinscher grasp of our writing utensil and tracing various lines. Next week we will begin working on the capital letter L as our letter of the week.

Center time has been going very smoothly! They have really been engaged in the activities, following directions and working at their center until the 10 minute time is up. I will increase the time between switching to 12 minutes next week. That should bring us up to a good 15 minutes by October! Building stamina and being able to maintain focus is so very important.
