Our History

"BHS Squad," Beech Hill School's first Destination Imagination team, qualified for Global Finals 2016 in Knoxville, TN. The team of seven students from grades 5-8, came together to to write and perform a mystery story where they discovered live on stage “whodunnit,” adapting their story in the moment.

"Black Hole to Imagination," followed in the footsteps of the "BHS Squad" earning first place in the state of Maine and qualifying for Global Finals 2017 in the scientific challenge. For this challenge, they had to create and present a story about a secret mission where they apply methods from cryptography and steganography to reveal secret messages. One of these messages had to be coded and decoded live on stage!

They built a prop that transformed in the maze and removed an object from the maze all while telling a story about the journey through the maze.

In the 2018-2019 academic year, we added an elementary team to our Beech Hill School Destination Imagination program.

Our middle level team, "Twisted Reflection," participated in the engineering challenge: Monster Effect. They placed first in the state, making them the fourth team in BHS DI history to qualify for Global Finals. This year they are headed to Kansas City, MO, to showcase their solution. They were challenged to create and present a story in which the appearance of a monster had a surprising effect. They incorporated the testing of a structure's strength through the adding and removal of weights.

Our elementary level team, "Galactic Gamers," placed third in the state in the fine arts challenge: Game On. They were tasked with creating and presenting a story that integrated a team selected game and included a game gizmo and a container that went through a transformation!
